In the PCB industry, PCBs are divided into two types: single-sided and double-sided PCBs, which have different structures and functions, so what exactly is the difference?

single and double-sided PCB

Single-sided PCB

Single-sided PCB is the simplest PCB board, the most obvious feature is that the parts are concentrated on one side of it, and the wires are concentrated on the other side, because the wires only appear on one side, so it is called single-sided board.

Single-sided PCB wiring diagram is based on grid printing, printed on the copper surface resist, after etching and then anti-solder resistance to print the business model, and finally to complete the parts guide hole and the shape of the punching process.

However, due to single-sided PCB only one side, so there are many strict restrictions in the layout of wiring, single-panel wiring can not be crossed must be bypassed alone path, so it is only suitable for simple applications, such as toys, calculators, remote controls, and other low-simple devices.

Advantages of single-sided PCB: 1. Low cost; 2. Simple design and production; 3. Easy troubleshooting; 3. Short lead time

Double-sided PCB

Double-sided PCB has a top layer and the bottom layer of copper laying two-sided PCB board, double-sided board is characterized by wiring can be soldered, the middle layer is an insulating layer, both sides can be routed, reducing the difficulty of wiring. Relative to a single panel, the cost of double-sided board and the difficulty of the manufacturing process, but it can meet the more complex equipment for industrial control, automotive electronics, consumer electronics and more advanced equipment, is the more common PCB board on the market.

Advantages of double-sided PCB: 1. More components can be placed; 2. Achieve more efficient wiring; 3. Stronger functionality

Difference between single sided PCB board and double sided PCB:

1. single-sided panel has copper foil on one side, is familiar with the circuit board, while the double-sided panel has copper foil on both sides, both can be wired, using a conductive through-hole connection.

2. Single-sided panel of the solder joints are basically on the same side, the other side of the insert components, some devices have SMD components on the copper foil, while both sides of the double-sided board can be soldered, so that both insert components and SMD components.

3. Single-sided PCB board only one side for wiring and assembly of electronic components, while the double-sided PCB board has two working layers on both sides, so it can be wired and assembled on both sides. This allows double-sided PCBs to realize more complex circuit designs.

4. With two working layers, double-sided PCBs have higher wiring capability than single-sided PCBs. It can realize electrical connections between different layers through through-hole connections, thus realizing more signal transmission paths.

5. The manufacturing cost of double-sided PCB is higher than single-sided PCB. This is because double-sided PCBs require more manufacturing steps and materials.

6. Scope of application: double-sided PCB boards are suitable for a variety of complex circuit layout and high-density assembly application scenarios, such as computers, communications equipment, industrial control and consumer electronics and other fields. While single-sided PCB boards are used for simple circuit design and low-cost requirements of the application.
