The common PCB circuit board colors on the market today are green, black, blue, yellow, purple, red and brown, white and pink PCBs.So why do PCB circuit boards come in different colors? Why are most of the circuit boards green?
Why do PCB come in different colors?
In the production of PCB boards, the copper layer ends up with a smooth and unprotected surface, either additively or subtractively. Although the chemical properties of copper is not as chemical as aluminum, iron, magnesium pure copper and oxygen contact in water conditions easy to oxidize, but the thickness of the copper layer in the PCB circuit board is very thin, oxidized copper will become a poor conductor of electricity, will greatly damage the electrical properties of the entire PCB. In order to prevent copper oxidation, separate the soldered and non-soldered parts of the PCB, and protect the surface of the PCB circuit board, design engineers will apply a special coating to the surface of the PCB circuit board to form a certain thickness of the protective layer, blocking the contact between copper and air. The coating is called a soldermask and the material used is soldermask paint.
The color of the PCB is usually determined by the color of the soldermask, not by the color of the board itself. Common colors are red, yellow, green, blue, black and so on. Different colors of PCB boards in use will also be considered to have some differences, for example, black PCB is usually considered to be high-end products, while red, yellow and so on is low-end special. Of course, these are only the default impression, in fact, the color of the PCB does not affect the performance.
Why green ink will be used more widely?
1. Can reduce production costs
Green is the mainstream, the natural green paint will be purchased in larger quantities, green paint purchasing costs relative to other colors will be lower, you can reduce costs.
2. Better machine identification
Electronic products through the production of boards and components of the patch welding. Green PCB boards have high reflectivity and can be clearly visible even in low-light environments.
3. More environmentally friendly
Blue PCB ink and black PCB ink are more conductive because they are doped with cobalt and carbon. Therefore, there may be a risk of short circuit. Green PCB is more environmentally friendly and does not release toxic gases when used in high temperature environments.
PCB has more color options, providing users with more different experiences, according to different products can have more appropriate colors, which is the trend of the times.
