The trade‑offs are equally real. If a reel arrives short or a moisture‑sensitive part fails incoming inspection, the line stops—and the delay is yours. You carry the burden of material readiness: kit completeness, labeling accuracy, MSD handling. Partial mismatches between your specs and the CM's standard processes can trigger rework or NPI friction. And unless explicitly contracted, defect attribution often tilts toward the party supplying the suspect material.
Consignment fits best when IP protection, component control, or cost transparency outweigh convenience—defense electronics, medical devices, legacy industrial systems, or products riding volatile supply chains.
